Planned Giving

Let your legacy echo across Trout Lake.

Planned Gifts to Camp Susan Curtis:

By making a planned gift to Camp Susan Curtis, your legacy of care for Maine’s children will echo for generations, like campers’ laughter across Trout Lake. Below are a few planned giving vehicles you can consider with your legal and financial counsel:

Bequests:

Bequests are simply a charitable gift made through your will or trust and the easiest way to leave a lasting legacy. You can make a bequest by specifying an amount of cash or a percentage of your assets to be donated to Camp Susan Curtis. Bequests are deductible as charitable gifts for estate tax purposes and can include most assets. A charitable bequest may be added to an existing will as a codicil.

For any bequests of non-cash gifts, please consult with Alaena Dunn, Director of Development, at Camp Susan Curtis to ensure we can receive your gift.  Alaena can be reached at adunn@susancurtis.org or 207-774-1552.

Here is some sample bequest language to assist you and your attorney:

“I hereby give, devise and bequeath {bequest amount; percentage of residuary estate} to The Susan L. Curtis Foundation, doing business as Camp Susan Curtis, a non-profit organization located at 70 Center Street, Suite 204, Portland, ME 04074, Federal Tax ID 01-0324705 for The Susan L. Curtis Foundation’s general use and purposes.”

Beneficiary Gifts:

A beneficiary gift is another easy way to leave a lasting impact on Maine kids. You can designate Camp Susan Curtis as the beneficiary of a retirement account, investment account, bank account, or life insurance policy. To name Camp Susan Curtis as a beneficiary, contact the person, custodian or trustee who helps you with your account. They will send you a beneficiary designation form. Be sure to keep a copy for your records and notify Camp Susan Curtis of your gift.

Charitable Trusts:

For some individuals, a split interest trust, such as a Charitable Remainder Trust or a Charitable Lead Trust, will be an attractive option that serves to support an individual or individuals as well as a charity.

“Camp is important for these kids because a lot of them go through hardships they shouldn’t have to go through as kids. I know when I was younger and going through those hardships, I felt like I had no one. But when I was at camp, I felt like I was being cared for, like I had somebody to talk to. And I think that’s very important. Because these campers deserve to have fun and deserve to have somebody comfort them.”
