Camp Susan Curtis Welcomes New Executive Director, Scott Merrow

January 12, 2024

To the Camp Susan Curtis community:

On behalf of the Camp Susan Curtis Board of Directors, I am delighted to share that we have welcomed Scott Merrow on board as Camp Susan Curtis’s new Executive Director.

Scott Merrow, pictured above, has over 30 years of professional experience with various camps and nonprofit organizations

During our national search, led by KOYA Leadership Partners, we received an incredible outpouring of interest in response to the job opening and feel fortunate to have had a rich pool of applicants to consider. We are confident that Scott’s experience, knowledge, and passion are a great match for the staff, stakeholders, and – most importantly – the youth of Maine whom we serve. Scott combines deep knowledge and experience in providing services to children facing economic hardship with a true passion for the transformative power of the camp experience. Together, we will work to advance the mission of Camp Susan Curtis and ensure that Maine children receive the tools, experiences, and opportunities they need to find their path to a bright future.

Scott has spent more than thirty years working in the summer camp profession and with nonprofit organizations. He has served in leadership roles at several nonprofits, most recently as Executive Director at Lincoln Hall, a residential program in Westchester County, New York, committed to helping court-involved youth thrive as engaged and productive citizens. Prior to Lincoln Hall, Scott served as Chief Operating Officer for Chicago Youth Centers, where he managed programs and operations for six community centers, after-school programs, and early childhood centers in underserved neighborhoods in the South and West sides of Chicago. With a reputation as a visionary and transformational leader, Scott has devoted his professional life to driving innovative ideas and impactful change to improve the financial health, operations, programs, visibility, funding, and impact of organizations with a social mission.

Scott’s camp experience includes leadership roles at Oceanwood Camp and Conference Center in Ocean Park, Maine; Camp Calumet and Camps Kenwood & Evergreen in New Hampshire; and Camp Schodack in New York.  Throughout his career Scott has been a committed advocate for the powerful outcomes of camp and an active member of the American Camp Association, Maine Summer Camp Association, and New Hampshire Summer Camp Association.

Scott will work with the Camp Susan Curtis Board to create a clear strategic vision for growing and strengthening Camp Susan Curtis’s impact for Maine children facing economic hardship. He is eager to dive into this work and to meet the caring people like you who make it possible.

I hope you will join the staff and Board of Directors in welcoming Scott to Camp Susan Curtis!

Sincerely,

Nolan Reichl

Board Chair

“Something I learned from camp this year is one, to be more mature so I can be the best role model possible for younger campers. Another thing I learned was to use my voice more and to be less shy, this will help me in the future by being able to speak up not only for myself but for my friends and people who need someone to speak up for them.”
