Camp Susan Curtis Celebrates 50 Years

October 9, 2024

On Thursday, October 3rd, nearly 350 members of the Camp Susan Curtis community – campers, alumni, staff, board members, sponsors, referral partners, and volunteers – gathered at Brick South in Portland to celebrate the camp’s 50-year legacy of supporting Maine children.

Guests enjoyed an engaging and interactive cocktail hour hosted by staff and former campers that brought the feeling of camp to Portland before settling in for dinner.

CSC Executive Director Scott Merrow and Board Chair Nolan Reichl opened the evening’s program by welcoming guests to dinner and sharing a special video message from the event’s honorary co-chairs, Bob and Jen Montgomery-Rice. Governor Janet Mills also made brief remarks on the impact of Camp Susan Curtis and the incredible legacy of its founders, Governor Ken and Polly Curtis.

After everyone had enjoyed dinner, two camp alumni – Charlie Plourde and Elyse Corbett – shared stories about the impact of camp on their own lives, and led the room in a special Wishboat Ceremony with CSC Camp Director, Terri Mulks.

We are proud to say that 350 guests and 50 sponsors contributed over $300,000 to Camp Susan Curtis in honor of our 50th Anniversary. Thank you to all who attended the event or supported from afar – we truly appreciate you being part of this amazing community.

“Something I learned from camp this year is one, to be more mature so I can be the best role model possible for younger campers. Another thing I learned was to use my voice more and to be less shy, this will help me in the future by being able to speak up not only for myself but for my friends and people who need someone to speak up for them.”
